Happy New Year!!! I can’t believe how fast 2018 has gone by! As I sit here thinking back to everything my year has been, I get more and more excited to enter 2019 and see what it has in store for me. Every December I make at least one resolution. I enter January feeling exuberant and motivated to take on any challenge head first that comes my way and to really thrive and grow in whatever goal or resolution I set for myself. And then somewhere along the way I FAIL. MISERABLY. This is the only part I dread about resolutions. Sure, it sounds great in the beginning, but seeing something through for approximately 365 days gets challenging. Then again, nothing worth having comes easily. So every year I keep on making them, determined to eventually see my resolutions through, and I think this year might just be it!
I make this resolution every.single.year. Obviously I’ve never done it, otherwise I wouldn’t have to keep making it. 😂 I do really well for about a week or two then I catch a cold, or I skip a couple days because I’m too busy. A couple days turns into a week, then two, and before you know it I’ve lost a whole month. But I feel confident that this year will be different!
This has been one of the biggest challenges I’ve faced entering the blogging world. Originally I started out wanting to post 3 times a week, but having another job took priority and I found myself floundering to keep up and create content. I still have another job but with a more consistent schedule, so this year I’m hoping to find a routine that helps me stay consistent and keeps me accountable with my posts.
As a perfectionist, I’m constantly stressing about something. This past year a lot of it related to my blog. Not knowing what to post, not having a consistent schedule to work with, wondering how I was going to fit everything into my day that I wanted to get done, prepping my posts for the upcoming weeks, etc. This year I want to make it a point to stress less, go with the flow more, and just let things happen as they may.
I love to read, but somewhere along the way I stopped making time for it. I keep telling myself I’m “too busy” but really I just need to swap out watching TV for reading. I have a cabinet full of books, wonderful books, that have been piling up for a couple years now from Christmas’s and Birthday’s and are longing to be read. So this year I’m hoping to get through at least 5 of them, many more if this goes the way I plan for it to.
Spend More Time With God
This is the most important thing on my list, and the one I’ve been the worst at. Over the summer for about a week I went out on my deck in the morning, with a cup of coffee and my devotional, to spend some time with God. I don’t know what happened, but I did it less and less after that until I stopped doing it at all. I have at least 3 great devotionals I’ve either never cracked open, or only read the first few pages. I have a feeling if I really stayed true to this goal, all the other things on my list would fall into place.
There’s nothing that can steal your joy faster and rob you of your energy more than comparing yourself to someone else. Since I started blogging this has been such a struggle for me. Looking at everyone else’s Instagram pictures, blogs, post ideas, and lifestyles all the time can take it’s toll if you’re not confident in who you are and what you have. I’ve had to take a step back and remember that most of these people have been at it a lot longer than I have, they were probably in the same boat as me at one point, and what truly matters in life. I want 2019 to be a year where I stop being so hard on myself, be proud of all I’ve accomplished, and be grateful for the wonderful life God has blessed me with.
So here’s to a new year, a new start, following through with our goals, and becoming the best versions of ourselves we can be!
What are everyone’s resolutions this year? I’d love to hear about them! Leave them in the comments below! :)
